Rampage Systems, Inc. is a spin-off of Autographix, Inc., a company that developed, sold, and supported workstations for the design and production of presentation graphics. Although Autographix became the world leader in its marketplace after acquiring major rival Genigraphics, the company wanted to leverage its experience in driving high-resolution color peripherals into higher-growth markets. The graphic arts industry was a natural fit.
In 1987, Autographix began research and development for the Rampage RIP. The product was launched in Chicago at Print '91 and gained quick recognition for its speed and automatic trapping capabilities. Despite the product's initial success, Autographix, Inc. was shifting its focus as a manufacturer to an imaging service bureau and agreed to sell the rights to the Rampage product line in 1992 to Thomas Genova, the former Vice President of Development at Autographix.
Assuming the role of company president, Genova reassembled the Rampage engineering team from Autographix, including Mitch Bogart, Vice President of Research & Development. To establish distribution channels for the Rampage product line, Genova teamed up with Kevin McSweeney, who was head of International Operations at Autographix. To round out the management team, Paul McCusker, also from Autographix, was brought on as Vice President of Finance and Operations.
Product support personnel were added and the start-up company quickly gained a strong foothold in the industry. Since 1992, Rampage has maintained its singular focus on prepress workflow . . . a focus that has resulted in rapid and sustained growth, precipitated strategic alliances with other manufacturers and leading suppliers, and led to a large base of customers.
Looking forward, the company plans to broaden its distribution to other parts of the world with the help of its OEM relationships and through other indirect sales channels. The company will continue to invest heavily in R&D to provide customers with value-added functionality, and, in the United States, Rampage Systems will remain committed to providing the most responsive support services in the industry.
