Is Rampage a PDF workflow or a PostScript workflow?
Prior to Version 10, Rampage converted PDF files to PostScript. Today, Rampage natively processes incoming PDF files and traps them using the Rampage PDF Trap Engine. Among other benefits, this enables Rampage to process transparent effects in files from Adobe Creative Suite and Quark 7. You can, however, continue to input EPS files as well as other formats if appropriate.
Do I have to use the Rampage NORM workflow if using PDF Trap Engine?
No, but that is an option. Most Rampage operations will process to a raster, unscreened format for internal platemaking and proofing and use NORM if sending "digital film" to another location.
Do I have to use JDF if using PDF Trap Engine?
No.
Is imposition software bundled with Rampage?
No. As an open system, Rampage allows you to pick and choose the imposition software that is most appropriate for your operation. Imposition templates in JDF format can merge with pages in Rampage, or you can import proxy files from Rampage into an imposition package.
Do I need a Shooter for all of my output devices?
No. A Shooter is the halftone screening module of Rampage. In very high volume operations, it resides in a dedicated PC; otherwise it resides in the same Rampage PC as the RIP/workflow. Depending on certain circumstances, a single Shooter may support two halftone devices.
For inkjets, lasers, and other imaging systems on your network, Rampage provides a generic file format that is derived from the same data used for plating. RAMproof Direct is also an option for driving multiple inkjets directly.
What does Rampage offer with regard to automation?
Rampage pioneered the concept of extending the capabilities of a RIP in order to automate prepress production. Today's de facto workflow standards, such as late binding, in-RIP trapping, and integrated preflight were part of Rampage from day one.
Today, we can take a much broader view of automation thanks to the enabling powers of the Internet and the collaborative efforts of the CIP4 organization and the resulting JDF standard. These forces extend the reach of Rampage beyond the walls of your Prep department, moving downstream with features such as inkzone calculation and the INKdrop option and upstream (and outward) with products such as Rampage Remote. This reach is complemented by the ability to share relevant data via JDF/XML with other systems related to business, color, and production.
Rampage is a small company. Is my investment safe?
With regard to workflow products, Rampage, for the past 15 years has proven to be a far safer investment as compared to comparable systems from large, publicly-traded manufacturers. In fact, "forklift" upgrades, discontinued products, mergers, and under-performing products, have prompted many businesses to move to the Rampage workflow. Said differently, the company's size and focus strengthen the argument for choosing Rampage.
